Polaris Semiconductor Unveils Application Note on Switching-Free Boost Regulators
ALEXANDRIA, VA — September 2, 2025 — Polaris Semiconductor today announced the release of a new application note, "Switching-Free Boost Regulators: A Compact, All-Linear Solution to Stepping-Up Voltage". This document follows the company's white paper on its Enhanced Linear Regulator (ELR) technology, offering a deeper dive into the design and performance of a boost ELR and highlighting its compact solution size.
The application note uses the BT291D50M as a primary example, a device capable of boosting a single-cell lithium-based battery to a regulated 5V output. A demonstration board for the BT291D50M features a total solution size of just 12.5 mm×7.5 mm×1.2 mm and requires only four passive components, including the input and output capacitors and two resistors for setting the output voltage. The application note provides a detailed breakdown of the device's efficiency, noise, ripple rejection, and other crucial design considerations.
