Polaris Semiconductor's Breakthrough ELR Technology Featured in Power Electronics News

ALEXANDRIA, VA – July 22, 2025 – Polaris Semiconductor is proud to be featured in a highlight article by Power Electronics News, a leading publication for the power electronics industry. The piece, written by esteemed technical journalist Maurizio Di Paolo Emilio, provides a comprehensive look into our innovative approach to DC voltage regulation.

The article, titled "Revolutionizing DC Voltage Regulation with Photon-Enhanced Technology," delves into the long-standing industry challenge of choosing between conventional linear regulators, which offer low noise but poor efficiency , and switching regulators, which are highly efficient but generate significant electromagnetic interference (EMI) and require bulky external components.

Polaris Semiconductor's Enhanced Linear Regulator (ELR) technology was designed to eliminate this compromise. As detailed in the article, our solution merges the simplicity and quiet performance of a linear regulator with a new class of high-efficiency optoelectronic components that recycle energy. The core of this innovation is our proprietary monolithic GaAs-based optocoupler, which achieves an electrical-to-electrical conversion efficiency exceeding 50% —a figure dramatically higher than typical off-the-shelf components. This enables our ELR devices to reach overall efficiencies between 60% and 85% while remaining entirely free of switching noise.

Matthew Lumb, founder and CEO of Polaris Semiconductor, commented on the company’s recent progress in the article:

“Right now we’re sampling our product, and we’ve already provided samples to several companies, mainly in RF and space areas, who were particularly interested in low-noise systems. We also received a customer memorandum from Space Systems Command, which is essentially the commercial arm of the acquisition part of the Department of the Air Force, responsible for implementing next-generation technologies to outpace emerging threats and protect the nation’s strategic advantage in space."

Our technology is engineered for the most demanding applications, including precision RF systems, atomic clocks, satellite power systems, and other space, defense, and noise-sensitive electronics. By delivering high efficiency and ultra-low noise in a single, compact package, Polaris is enabling the next generation of smaller, lighter, and higher-performance systems.

We invite you to read the full article on the Power Electronics News website to learn more about our technology and vision.
